Ms Karen Lim Shu Wen
Director
Singapore Customs Academy

In today's globalised world, customs administrations and traders must deal with an ever-changing environment. It is critical to keep pace with these changes to ensure success. To this end, trained customs and trade professionals equipped with the relevant technical knowledge and familiarity with regulatory requirements have become ever more crucial for businesses and customs administrations.

The Singapore Customs Academy is dedicated to enable the business community, our Customs officers and international counterparts to obtain the right training in the field of customs knowledge and competencies.

Through feedback from traders, we have reviewed our courses, which are now more comprehensive and offered in a modular format to better address the different training needs of the business community. At the same time, we are also developing structured curricula to meet our staff's diverse training requirements, which will in turn prepare Singapore Customs to better meet our future needs and growth. The building of a dedicated pool of experienced trainers will help to harness our institutional knowledge required in all aspects of customs work. Besides these, we have also collaborated with higher institutions of learning such as Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy to develop programmes for students and overseas customs officials respectively.

Looking ahead, the Academy seeks to facilitate more of such collaborations to enable Singapore Customs to share its customs knowledge and expertise locally and internationally, thereby contributing to the advancement of thought leadership in customs. As mentioned by Sir Francis Bacon in the 16th century, "Knowledge is power". Indeed, strengthening competencies is essential to meet the challenges ahead in a complex operating environment. I encourage you to participate actively in the Academy's programmes and we welcome any feedback on our programmes and services so that we can make further.
